Insider Louisville is committed to transparency in every aspect of funding our nonprofit, nonpartisan news organization.

Financial support does not constitute an endorsement of a contributor’s products, services, positions or opinions. It also does not give a contributor a role in assigning, reporting, editing or publishing our journalism.

Our funding principles

Editorial independence

News judgments are made by the newsroom, without direction from financial supporters.

Clear disclosure

Relevant financial relationships are identified so readers can evaluate our work with useful context.

Conflict review

Potential support is reviewed for conflicts that could compromise, or appear to compromise, independence.

Accountability

Questions about this policy and its application are considered as part of our public responsibility.

Sources of support

We may accept grants and sponsorships from individuals, organizations and foundations to support general operations, reporting on particular topics and special projects. We may also carry a limited amount of relevant advertising from local businesses.

Funders, sponsors and advertisers do not determine our conclusions or influence our editorial decisions. When outside support is connected to a particular area of coverage, we use clear labeling where appropriate.

Disclosure and safeguards

We make public supporters who provide $5,000 or more per year. We avoid accepting support from anonymous sources and do not accept contributions from government entities, political parties, elected officials or candidates actively seeking public office.

We also decline support when it presents a conflict of interest with our work or could compromise our independence. These safeguards apply alongside the standards described in our Code of Ethics.
